Supti Pandey files nomination for Maniktala by-election

Trinamool Congress candidate Supti Pandey officially entered the fray for the upcoming Maniktala by-election by filing her nomination at Jessop Building on Tuesday. Accompanied by assembly constituency councilors, her daughter Shreya Pandey, and North Kolkata Trinamool Youth President Shanti Ranjan Kundu, Pandey expressed determination to fulfill the legacy of Sadhan Pandey, the former representative.

"I am committed to completing the unfinished work of Sadhan Pandey in Maniktala," declared Supti Pandey after filing her nomination. "Today marks the beginning of my campaign, and I am confident of the overwhelming support from the people."

The by-election in Maniktala, scheduled for July 10, has spurred all political parties into action. Supti Pandey, while acknowledging the challenge from BJP's Kalyan Chaubey, asserted, "He saw the power of Shiva in Sadhan Pandey's contest; now, he will witness the strength of Parvati in me. I will demonstrate the formidable role women play in elections."

The electorate's response has been positive towards Pandey's candidacy, reflecting optimism within her campaign. BJP and CPI(M) are expected to file their nominations shortly, with Kalyan Chaubey being BJP's candidate. The election in Maniktala was on hold for two years until recently, when legal hurdles were cleared, paving the way for the July 10 polling alongside Bagda, Ranaghat South, and Raiganj constituencies. Results are slated for July 13.
